In this track, the student travels abroad to conduct research in an international destination, in either a university or a research institution, and could accompany a KFUPM faculty member or by himself/herself. The student has to be a high achiever at KFUPM, and must be willing to cover part of the expenses during this research opportunity. The project undertaken is student-driven with the endorsement of the host adviser at the international destination, and a final report is expected, preferably with a journal or conference publication.
The fellowship seeks to enhance students’ research capabilities through structured early engagement and empowers them to conduct independent research with confidence. By immersing students in hands-on research environments, the program helps them develop the skills and mindset needed to analyze and solve complex problems relevant to their academic field.
It also fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and communication; skills essential for success in any research or professional setting. Through international placements, students gain global exposure, broaden their perspectives, and engage in cross-cultural academic exchange, positioning them to thrive in increasingly interconnected fields. The program also acts as a pipeline for future research opportunities, graduate school admissions, and long-term academic and professional development.
